Explainer: file types – The Eclectic Light Company
The correct answer to the question of what determines a file’s type is therefore a list:
UTI, e.g. com.adobe.pdf,
filename extension, e.g pdf,
OSType, e.g. PDF,
MIME type, e.g. application/pdf, or
Pasteboard type, e.g. Apple PDF pasteboard type.
These [UTI] types exist within a vast interconnected tree.
For example, when I write a file of Swift source code,
the
.swift
file has the typepublic.swift-source
,which is a specialised type of
public.source-code
,which is both
public.data
andpublic.plain-text
,which is
public.text
Adventures in Excel - Macdrifter
FORECAST is a neat little tool that
takes a target value “x”, known “y” values, and known “x” values and
calculates the predicted future “y” value by linear regression.
Excel actually has several functions for dealing with days of the year.
There’s the WORKDAY function which is useful for determining the date of a future number of working days without counting weekends or holidays.
WEEKNUM returns the week number from a given date.
There are a few day-type functions
but there is not a DAYNUM function to calculate the day of the year
How long can China’s zero-covid policy last? | The Economist
As for the enforcers, many of them have a stake in the status quo, too.
During the pandemic, grassroots Communist Party committees have been re-energised.
Their chiefs, once sidelined by rapid social and economic change,
have gained new authority to mobilise people and deploy resources to control covid.
They will not readily return to their often-marginalised pre-pandemic state, nor does the party want them to.
It hopes that its street-level workers will play a bigger role in maintaining order in urban neighbourhoods,
using skills honed during the pandemic.
China: Sunset of Localized Version of LinkedIn and Launch of New InJobs App Later This Year
We recognized that operating a localized version of LinkedIn in China would mean adherence to requirements of the Chinese government on Internet platforms.
While we strongly support freedom of expression, we took this approach in order to create value for our members in China and around the world.
We also established a clear set of guidelines to follow should we ever need to re-evaluate our localized version of LinkedIn in China.
We have not found that same level of success in the more social aspects of sharing and staying informed.
We’re also facing a significantly more challenging operating environment and greater compliance requirements in China
Later this year, we will launch InJobs, a new, standalone jobs application for China.
InJobs will not include a social feed or the ability to share posts or articles.
